What we keep, and what we don’t
The short version: you can get recommendations without an account. We don’t use ad trackers, and children never sign in.
Using FictionProfile as a guest
Your answers and book choices stay in this browser tab. They go to FictionProfile only to make the current shelf; we don’t save them as a personal profile on our server.
If you save a profile
Sign-in gives the site the account details needed to recognize you. The reading database keeps only the stable account ID. Once you save, it also keeps the profile’s reading preferences, book choices, feedback, recommendation history, and earlier versions so they are there when you return.
Private beta invitations
The owner may add adult email addresses to a private invitation list in Cloudflare Access. Cloudflare uses those addresses to send requested one-time sign-in codes and keep authentication records. FictionProfile does not copy the invitation list into its book database, browser storage, or application logs.
Younger readers
To make a profile for someone under 18, you’ll confirm that you’re the adult managing it. Use only a short nickname or initials—never a birth date, full name, email address, or contact details.
OpenAI and Open Library
We don’t send reader answers, account details, household-profile information, or matching data derived from them to OpenAI’s embedding service. Covers and source links come from Open Library, which receives the ordinary technical data needed to serve those pages and images.
Anonymous shelf survey
If you answer the shelf survey, we keep only the recommendation version, the reader’s age range, and the number you entered. We don’t keep the profile, book IDs, or a response tied to you.
Your controls
Signed-in adults can download a profile, clear its book choices, or delete it. Deletion removes the profile and its personal records. FictionProfile does not use passive product analytics or third-party advertising trackers.
